In a major e-auction bid that will give boost to develop the tourism sector in Digha, a 32-cottah plot was sold off for Rs 3.24 crore for setting up a hotel. The standing committee of the state cabinet has approved the allotment of 10 plots of different sizes, ranging from 4 cottahs to 32 kottahs, in Digha for developing budget hotels and holiday homes.
According to sources in the state secretariat, the plots were allotted through e-auction process. “Three other medium-sized plots were sold off for Rs 1.5 crore,” said a government official. He said that the sanctioning and allotment of ten plots in different parts of Digha will further boost tourism. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee has been visiting the coastal zone and keeping track of overall tourism development.
The state has been working to develop the coastal areas of Digha, Shankarpur, Tajpur and Mandarmani as attractive tourist destinations. Already, a land use and development map has been prepared for Digha and Shankarpur.
